Klaus Schwendy graduated in law and received a doctorate (Dr. jur.) in 1969. He
has co-authored several publications on trademark and patent matters, especially the Busse,
Patentgesetz.
He served as a judge in Hamburg from 1969-74 . He was delegated as an assistant
judge to the Federal Supreme Court in Karlsruhe from 1974-77. In 1977 he became a member of the Federal Patent
Court (Germany). He was a member of boards of appeal for patent and for trademark cases, a member and
vice-chairman of the judicial board of appeal and a nullity board. In 1987 he was delegated to Calcutta (forum of Indian judges) and in 1990 to Port
of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago (support of Trademark Department), on behalf of the World Intellectual
Property Organisation (WIPO). Dr. Schwendy was appointed presiding judge of the Federal
Patent Court in 1990. He was a chairman of boards of appeal for trademark cases from 1990-97 . He served
as a chairman of a nullity board from 1997-2004 .
Klaus Schwendy joined the Frohwitter law firm in Munich following his retirement from the
German Federal Patent Court in 2004 . He was admitted a Rechtsanwalt in 2007
Mr. Schwendy speaks German.
